Cardboard Boat Race

We have exciting news! The Grade 8s will be planning, building and racing cardboard boats at Centennial Pool on Weds, June 8!

This is an event to connet the Fluids and Forces units in from the Grade 8 Science curriculum to real-life, hands-on learning.

A permission form has been sent home with further details, including the cost ($10, payable at https://yrdsb.schoolcashonline.com) and a permission form that needs to be signed.

Please return permission forms and complete the payment by Monday, June 6!

We also need parents volunteers to accompany us to this exciting event! If you are available, please contact your child's homeroom teacher or indicate your availability on the permission form.

Missing Pair of Running Shoes

It has recently come to our attention that a pair of new Nike gray running shoes has gone missing from one of our classrooms. If anyone has happened to come across those shoes, can you please return them to the school office as soon as possible.

Ottawa Trip Final Payment and Permission Forms

Our Ottawa trip is fast approaching! An information package has been sent home with  your child regarding the final payment, important information and permission forms that need to be signed.

Here is a summary of the important information:

1) The final cost has been set at $532.35. Your final payment of $407.35 ($532.35-$125 depotsit) is due as soon as possible and no later than Thursday, May 5, 2016.

2) Departure: We will leave the school on May 18 at 7:30 am sharp! Please arrive by 7:10 am with your luggage.

3) The package sent home included the following forms. Please return all SIX forms to your child's homeroom teacher by Monday, May 2.

The forms are:
1) Student/Parent contract for student expectations
2) Informed consent agreement
3) Personal information form
4) Medical information form
5) Self-administration of medication form
6) Altitude gym participation agreement

BAPS on Broadway presents Beauty and the Beast

When: Wednesday, May 11 and Thursday, May 12 2016 at 6:30 pm.

General admission: $10/ticket. Doors open at 6pm with preshow entertainment provided by: Band on Broadway.

Tickets may be purchased online at School Cash Online. Paper instruction on how to register were sent home earlier in the year. Instructions can also be found on the school website.

Note: a 9 digit student identification number which is also used for logging into school computers is required.

Reminder: Grad Photos Tomorrow (Thursday, April 7)

This is just a reminder that Grad Photos are being taken tomorrow, Thursday April 7.

Students are welcome to bring a white collared blouse and a tie if they wish. They will be given graduation robes for the pictures.

4. Select the following to pay: Beverley Acres PS – Ottawa May 18 2016 (Deposit WITH COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE) and Select Accommodation cost $125.00

5. Click “Book” and follow the online prompts.

If you do not wish to use the online/electronic payment method, please make cheques payable to Temple & Temple Tours Inc. and send in to the school in an envelope marked with your child’s name and homeroom.

Ottawa Trip Deposit: $125 by Friday, April 8

A letter has gone home with your child outlining the next steps in registering for the Ottawa Trip taking place May 18 to May 20th.

If you are interesting in sending your child on the trip, a $125 deposit ($100 deposit plus a mandatory $25 insurance fee) must be made by Friday, April 8, 2016.

The details for how to pay the deposit online are listed on the information sheet that has been sent home.

Grad Picture Day for Grade 8s

Due to a snow day, our Grad Photos have been rescheduled for Thursday, April 7, 2016.

Students who wish to order a class composite can still do so. The cost is $33.90 including tax, in cash or by cheque (made payable to Lifetouch Canada).

Order forms are still available at school for students to pick up.

Grade 8 French Immersion Ottawa Trip!

An information page is being sent home today with all our grade 8 students about the Ottawa Trip! This excursion will take place from Weds, May 18 to Friday, May 20, 2016 and will be hosted by the Toronto based educational tour company, Temple and Temple.

As the final cost of the trip is contingent on the number of students participating, we are unable to confirm the final amount at this time. We expect the cost to be about $500. Should the excursion take place (pending participation numbers), a $120 deposit will be due on or before Tuesday, April 5.

A parent information session will be held on Tuesday, March 29 at 6:00 pm in the library, with representatives from Temple and Temple attending to provide information about the trip and answer any questions.

Course Verification Forms

Course verification forms have been confirmed and have been sent home throughout the week for different high schools.

Please look them over and make sure that the courses are correct. If you want to make any changes to the course selection form, please follow the instructions on the page and return them back to BAPS as soon as possible.

IF EVERYTHING IS CORRECT AND YOU DON'T WANT TO MAKE ANY CHANGES, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RETURN THE SHEET TO THE SCHOOL!

Good news - online payments coming soon! Please be advised that our school will be accepting online payments through School Cash Online. School related expenses such as Pita, Pizza, field trips and fundraisers will be online soon for you to make payment. 

The information sheet on how to register for online payments will be sent home today. There are detailed instructions for how to sign up, as well as instructional videos on how to do so.

As you know, due to the recent inclement weather days, our Pita lunches have been cancelled.  As a result, we are now rescheduling the two days missed.  Pita make-up days will be Wednesday, March 9 and Wednesday, March 23.

As well, our grade 8 graduation photos have been rescheduled for Thursday, April 7th.

Grad Photo Day: March 2

Grad photos for the grade 8s are coming up on March 2! Students have been given a form with information regarding the class composite order for the class of 2016. The cost is $30 and is to be handed in before March 2.

It is recommended that students wear a white collared shirt under the gown. Students may also choose to wear a tie.

Course Selection Forms

If your child has not handed in his or her course selection for high school yet, please do so by tomorrow so we can send them on to the high schools.

Report Cards

Report cards are being sent home today. Please sign and return the envelope and the comment slip to your child's homeroom teacher as soon as possible!

Course selection verification forms

The date for the submission of the course selection verification forms for Thornlea and Langstaff is Tuesday, February 2nd. Please print off the course selection forms and submit it to your child's homeroom teacher.

If your child is not able to pick his or her courses by February 2nd because their school has not been changed yet in the Career Cruising site, please do not worry. Just hand in the course verification form as soon as you are able to! Your child will still able to make course selections throughout the month of February.

Important! High School Course Registration Forms and Course Selection

Last week, Langstaff S.S and Thornlea S.S visited BAPS to present important information about the high school course selection process. Here are some important upcoming dates:

Tuesday, January 26: Students must submit the course registration form to Beverley Acres, regardless of what high school they will be attending next year! The only exception is if your child will be attending a Catholic school for grade 9. Otherwise, they must have this form in tomorrow.

Tuesday, February 2: Course selection form printed and handed in to homeroom teachers.

Students received a package with instructions for accessing and choosing their courses via the Career Cruising Pathfind located on the yrdsb.edu.on.ca site.


For students wishing to transfer to another York Region District school that is not their English or French home school, they MUST COMPLETE A TRANSFER FORM FROM THE OFFICE AND ATTACH IT TO THE REGISTRATION FORM IN ORDER FOR THE TRANSFER TO BE COMPLETED AND THEIR SCHOOL CHANGED IN CAREER CRUISING TO ACCESS THE COURSE SELECTION.
